BEFORE RUNNING THE GOLD TRAK PLEASE
READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION

1) This unit is like  any other high performance component. Use a good quality synthetic oil, run  a minimum of 4 quarts and you will extend the life and performance substantially.

2) When installing the unit, be sure to check axle engagement. To verify axle engagement clean axles and apply white grease to the spline area. Insert axle to proper depth in the drive flange, pull axle out amd measure area that has had grease removed. Proper engagement should be 1 1/4" minimum into the unit on both sides.

3) On all Gold Traks, particularly the Ford 9", if you are using floater axles, you must use a bolt to keep the axles from moving side to side. make sure the bolt and lock nut are clean and use Loctite.

4) Do not use any additives, such as Slick 50 or anything with moly or teflon. These will damage the Gold Trak.

5) We suggest you build a set of checker tools to periodically verify the preload of you unit. Yo can make these from a  set of old axles and use a standard torque wrench to measure breakaway torque.

Torque Breakaway Tool

The range of breakaway torque should be as follows:

HALF TIGHT UNIT - 90 TO 110 LBS.
FULL TIGHT UNIT - 125 TO 135 LBS.

CAUTION: Breakaway torque should
 never exceed 140 lbs.

6) To extend the life of your unit you should change the oil approximately every 250 laps. if the preload drops below 80 lbs. you should readjust or contact us for service and parts.

7) If you are running a preloaded unit and begin to experience a loose condition under entry, make sure to check the breakaway. This is an indication that the unit may be in need of service.

HOW TO SERVICE AND ADJUST YOUR GOLD TRAK DIFFERENTIAL

1) To inspect and service, you need to remove the safety wire from the eight 1/2" allen bolts. Remove bolts from both ends.

2.Take a soft drift and tap the small end off evenly.

3) Take two long 3/8 -16 bolts and screw into the threaded holes on the large end bell. As you tighten them, it will act like a bearing puller and remove end from center.

4) Clean and inspect all gears, wear plates and center body. Make sure you look for any galling on face of axle gears. If necessary, use 320 grit sandpaper on a glass plate to keep gear flat. If this does not clean it up, gear must be replaced. If wear plates are worn, turn upside down or replace. If pinions are worn, turn upside down

BUT KEEP THEM ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE UNIT. L GEARS GO ON THE LARGE END SIDE WHERE RING GEAR BOLTS
ON. ANY SMALL CHIPS IN GEARS SHOULD BE GROUND OUT OR REPLACED.

5.RE-ASSEMBLE UNIT IN THE SAME MANNER IT CAME APART. USE LIGHT
GREASE. IF YOU HAVE A NON-ADJUSTABLE UNIT, YOU CAN VARY THE
TORQUE ON THE EIGHT SIDE BOLTS FOR YOUR PRELOAD FROM 50 LBS. TO
125 LBS.

6.IF YOU HAVE THE ADJUSTABLE GOLD TRAK - BLACK GOLD, TO SET THE
PRELOAD RE-ASSEMBLE IN THE SAME WAY EXCEPT YOU NEED TO USE THE
SHIM STACK BEHIND THE HARDENED WASHER FOR YOU DESIRED
PRELOAD. APPROXIMATELY .005 WILL GIVE YOU THE BREAKAWAY TORQUE
OF 100 TO 120 LBS. VARYING THE FOUR BOLTS ON EACH END IN TORQUE
FROM 60-100 LBS. WILL ALSO CHANGE THE BREAKAWAY TORQUE VALUE.

7.FINAL PRELOAD SHOULD NEVER BY GREATER THAN 140 LBS. WITH THE
TOOL WE DESCRIBED. AFTER YOU THINK YOU HAVE THE CORRECT
PRELOAD WE SUGGEST THAT YOU USE YOUR TOOL WITH THE 18" ARM AND
ROTATE THE GEAR SEVERAL REVOLUTIONS IN BOTH DIRECTIONS THEN
READ THE PRELOAD TORQUE THIS WILL HELP SEAT THE GEARS
SOMETIMES YOUR LOAD MAY DROP AND YOU MIGHT HAVE TO READJUST
THE UNIT.

8.ANY OF THE GOLD TRAK UNITS ARE HIGH PERFORMANCE, REMEMBER TO
TREAT THEM AS SUCH. THEY WILL LAST A LONG TIME IF THEY HAVE CLEAN
OIL, NEVER RUN A UNIT WITH BURNT OR CONTAMINATED GREASE. NEVER
USE ADDITIVES SUCH AS, SLICK 50, TEFLON, OR MOLLY LUBES. THEY WILL
AFFECT THE WAY YOUR UNIT DIFFERENCIATES. WHEN YOU USE PRELOADS,
WE RECOMMEND A GOOD SYNTHETIC OIL SUCH AS RED LINE 75-90. IT MAY
COST MORE, BUT WE BELIEVE IT WILL EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR UNIT. DPI

9.MAKES AN ADDITIVE THAT WILL FORTIFY YOU OIL IF YOU ARE NOT USING
REDLINE SHOCKPROOF. IT IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR LIMITED SLIP
DIFFERENTIALS.
