Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I know which Pro Shock part number is right for my car and track conditions?
A: Call or E-Mail us for more help. Talk to one of our tech-service representatives.
Q: I don't understand what you mean by a "gas assist."
A: Lets look at some simple principles regarding this part of the shock
function. When the shaft travels into the body of the shock there has to space to
occupy the cubic centimeters of displacement which the shaft will occupy. Otherwise it would hydraulic lock. A standard hydraulic shock will not be
completely filled with fluid, leaving an air pocket in the reservoir area to contract
and expand as the shaft travels in and out of the body. Most racing shocks use one of the two methods of gas-assist to occupy this space for contracting and
expanding.
Q: Explain Your Street Stock Shock.
A: These specially designed street stock shocks by Pro Shocks are made to
replace the stock OEM units in the original mounting locations.
The "SS" series have extra heavy damping designed for the rigors of street stock
racing.
Q: What are the rebound adjustable "A" & "AC" Shocks?
A: The introduction of Pro Shocks adjustable shocks, is by far a truly
unique shock that is so user friendly that even the entry level racer can use effectively. The shock is totally adjustable on rebound or extension only, not
affecting the compression control at all. The Pro adjustable is available in 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 inch stroke lengths
in large body shocks only.
You pick the compression damping number shock and simply turn the rebound adjuster to the desired rebound number (3-4-5-6-7-8). This shock
can be adjusted infinitely from 3 to 8.
This rebound adjustable shock has the same sophisticated acceleration ramps and blow-off curves as the standard Pro Shocks. There is no
other shock like it, and a patent has been applied for.
Q: How do I adjust the rebound adjustable "A" & "AC" Shocks?
A: Here are a few tips on adjusting the Pro adjustable.
First you pick the compression dampening number shock you intend on using. You can find this number by holding the
housing part of the shock down with the shaft facing upward. There is a number stamped on the top of the shock
housing where the shaft enters the shock body. Beside the compression number you will notice a 3/16 allen head
female adjusting screw with numbers running clockwise from 3 all the way around (360 degrees) to 8. Insert a 3/16 allen wrench into the rebound adjuster screw. You will notice the allen
screw has an index pin. This is provided for you to align this pin with the stamped
rebound number. Caution should be taken when adjusting the allen screw so that you
do not rotate the screw assembly counter clockwise passed the #3 setting. The screw
can be backed out against the number plate and damage the shock. The 3/16 allen screw will only rotate clockwise one turn stopping at the #8 setting. Do not adjust
passed the #8 setting. This gives you all the rebound choices needed. Also keep in mind that the allen screw is
infinitely adjustable, meaning you can stop the index pin at any point between the numbers
on the plate and you will get controlled change. An example: lets say you are running
around the track and your car is loose on corner exit and you want to take rebound off the right front
but the looseness is very minor. You can then make a 1/4 of 1/2 adjustment between the
actual stamped numbers on the plate and you will get a minor control change.
Its just that easy! Pro Shocks has now given the racer a way to fine tune the suspension without spring
changes or bolting on and off shocks with just the aid of a 3/16 allen wrench.
