Quartermaster Bell Housing Tech Note: Checking and correcting bell housing alignment is one of the most critical and often overlooked procedures in completing the proper installation of a multi-disc racing clutch. The bell housing transmission register bore must concentric to the crank within .006" total indicated runout and the bell housing transmission flange must be parallel to the engine block within .002". This will prevent premature spline wear, cracked clutch discs and hubs, and excessive pilot bushing wear. Also, we strongly recommend a rubber mounted support on the tailshaft housing of the transmission to prevent deflection of the bell housing from the transmission being jarred up and down due to rough track surfaces or side to side from contact.
